The churchyard is the area which surrounds St Wilfrid's church There are a number of gravestones which can be inspected. The cemetery is situated on the outskirts of Monk Fryston towards Selby on the A63 road. The cemetery is still in use and is maintained by the local Burial Board.
Pontefract FHS (see link at the top of page) have two publications available for purchase on the Monumental Inscriptions of St Wilfrid's Church and the Cemetery.

Our publication "Hillam - A Village Remembered" has a chapter of interesting facts and figures from the Parish Records of St Wilfrid's Church compiled by Barbara Atkinson.

Another chapter in the book lists details on 22 farms and their occupiers as far back as 1811 so if your ancestors were farmers in Hillam you may find details of them here from research carried out by Shirley Sutcliffe.

Also listed on the Historical page is a list of men who gave their lives in the two great wars.  This list was researched and updated by Hillam Historians recently to enable the War Memorial in the churchyard to be brought up to date during renovation.
