Ring Tree Lights

In 1985, after over 2 years of persistence, Ruth Laycock secured the parish council's agreement to light up the Ring Tree - but without financial backing. By knocking on doors Ruth and Anne Dawson persuaded residents to offer expertise, equipment, money, food and drinks.

A committee was formed in 1988. Mary Little became chairman, and fundraising events were organised. In 2001 the lights were renewed and increased, and 12 lighted Christmas trees were put up round the Square.
Mary stood down in 2011 and a new committee was formed to continue developing the event.

The occasion has gradually grown to become a ceremony with a band and a choir, closure of the road through the Square during the event, refreshments for everyone and a gift from Santa for all the children.
